Franklin County Household Hazardous Waste Collection: Sept. 22
The Franklin County Solid Waste District is holding its annual household hazardous waste collection on Saturday, Sept. 22 at Greenfield Community College Main Campus and Orange Transfer Station.
Residents and businesses must pre-register by Sept. 14. Online registration forms may be completed at: http://www.franklincountywastedistrict.org/hazwasteday.html. Paper registration forms will be available at participating town offices and transfer stations. Participants will be assigned an appointment time to bring wastes to the collection; an appointment time will be provided by mail after registration is processed.
This collection is for the residents and businesses of the following towns: Athol, Barre,* Bernardston, Buckland, Charlemont, Colrain, Conway, Deerfield, Erving, Gill, Hawley, Heath, Leverett, Montague, New Salem, Northfield, Orange, Petersham, Rowe, Royalston, Shelburne, Sunderland,* Warwick, Wendell, and Whately.
This collection event is free for residents. *Barre and Sunderland residents must pay to participate in the 2018 collection. Space is limited. For business registration and pricing information, call (413) 772-2438.
Greenfield and Leyden residents are not eligible and should call (413) 772-1528 for info on disposal.
This collection provides an opportunity to dispose of hazardous items that should not be put in the trash, such as leftover oil-based paints, stains, thinners, household cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, pool chemicals, motor oil, antifreeze, automobile batteries, and other household chemicals. The only acceptable mercury-containing items will be thermostats and thermometers; fluorescent bulbs will not be accepted at this collection.
