Public hearing scheduled for Bernardston bridge project

BERNARDSTON — A proposed new bridge where Eden Trail connects with West Mountain Road will be the subject of a public hearing tonight at 6:30.

The plan includes making a larger opening for the water to run through, Conservation Commissioner Bill Meese said. The proposal mentions concerns of the bridge becoming unstable due to erosion from the water. A larger opening, Meese said, would reduce the speed of the water flowing through and thus cause less erosion.

The proposal was submitted on behalf of the town of Bernardston by Fieldstone Land Consulants, a firm the town worked with earlier this year on its Turners Falls bridge project.
